The  Polytechnic  was  established  at  kilakarai in August  1980 by  the   Mohamed  Sathak   Trust, Chennai.  The  Government accorded  permission  for the establishment of the polytechnic in G.O. Ms NO.1432 Education dated 28-07-80, the classes were commenced from 1-09-80.

The polytechnic is located on Ramnad Kanyakumari coastal road about  3kms  from  kilakarai,  amidst  a  sylvan  surroundings  of coconut and palm gardens in a 30 acres campus.The polytechnic is a project estimated to Rs. 2 crores.

Diploma Courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical &  Electronics, Electronics & Communication,  Marine  and  Computer Technology are offered at present in the institution. Part Time courses on Electronics & communication & Mechanical Engineering are also  conducted.

In  addition  to  the above  courses, the  Government  of India  has  sanctioned   a   Community  Polytechnic  in  the year 1984 & Continuing Education programme in the year 1999 to  spread  technical  education  among  the  rural   youths,  it has  centers  at  various  rural  areas  within  Ramanathapuram District.
